Puppy or Kitten - more information for the new owner

Whoever said money can’t buy happiness didn’t know about puppies and kittens!  Puppies and kittens are little bundles of joy and choosing the best breed for you and  your lifestyle is very important. Call us to have a chat about what might be the best breed for you. If you already have a new pet, register with us today so we can help you both enjoy a long, happy and healthy life together.

From little things big things grow...what you feed your puppy or kitten is very important.  Just like a human baby your puppy or kitten has different nutritional needs to that of an adult dog or cat. Giving them a good start in life is the best thing you can do to ensure they will be happy and healthy for years to come.

Your love and the right food – a winning combination. Many things such as size, breed, age, exercise and growth rates need to be taken into account when considering the best food for your puppy or kitten. Improper feeding can increase your puppy or kitten’s risk of obesity, growth-related skeletal problems, poor muscle development and poor immune response.

Growing animals, need a food with increased amounts of energy, protein and balanced nutrients compared to adults. We can help you choose the best option whether you have a large breed puppy (25 kg+ as an adult) who needs a puppy food formulated to ensure proper bone and muscle growth or a small breed puppy with a little mouth who may need smaller kibble. And let’s not forget kittens have special nutritional needs all of their own!

Keeping them safe from disease and unplanned parenthood.

Just like human babies, puppies and kittens need vaccinations to protect them from a range of diseases. Some diseases are fatal, so please don’t put your puppy or kitten at risk. Call us today to arrange an appointment. It’s never too early to think about preventing an unplanned pregnancy – a 4 month old kitten can become pregnant and 6 month old puppies can too! If you thought one puppy or kitten causes mischief, consider a whole litter of unplanned puppies or kittens! As your vet we can protect your puppy or kitten from parasites such as heartworm, fleas and intestinal worms too as well as protecting them from accidental parenthood with desexing!
