Microchipping

Microchipping is now compulsory for all cats and dogs.  However, remember that you can also microchip your special exotic pet too.  Rabbits are a very good example.  The microchip which is implanted is about the size of a grain of rice.

Unfortunately a microchip is not a tracking device, but it does store all of your information on it.  Once a lost animal is handed into the vet clinic or the pound, it is scanned for a microchip.  If a chip is located, you will be contacted immediately.

The hope is that a few years from now, when all animals have microchips, the thousands of lost animals handed into the pound each year will not be destroyed, but will be reunited with their families.

At Newtown Veterinary Clinic, the cost of lifelong registration and the microchip itself is $55.

Please contact us at anytime to have your pet chipped.
