Pet Insurance

Some helpful hints when choosing heath insurance:

  • Compare companies.

  • Call each company for further advice.

  • Decide on accident only or accident and illness.  Do you want routine health-care as well?

  • Add up routine health-care.  Does it make the extra premium worth while?

  • Take note of any age or breed exclusions or premium increases.

  • Insure pets as early as possible, before any medical conditions develop. (There are ALWAYS pre-existing illness exclusions).

Three companies to consider:

  • Vets Own  (1300 668 890)
  • Pet Plan (1300 738 225)
  • AFS Pet-Med (1300 732 172).

Remember also to ask:

  • Is there an age limit?
  • Is there a waiting period?
  • When does a specific medical complaint stop being covered due to on-going complaint?
  • Clarify any pet breed or pet age exclusions. (Get it in writing!)
  • What are the excesses involved?  Do these change with different breeds?
