Ernie’s Life
This is Ernie. He is a 10 week old Griffon terrier. We are going to follow Ernie’s life through images and stories through this web site. We hope you enjoy Ernie’s life adventure.
Ernie’s First Vet Visit
Ernie was picked up from the breeder on Saturday 25th June. He had been wormed and also had his first inoculation against distemper, hepatitis and parvo virus.
Haley (Ernie’s proud mum) brought Ernie to the clinic for a full vet check. The vet checked Ernie’s heart, lungs, temperature, eyes, ears, mouth and musculo-skeletal system. He was wormed, defleaed and micro chipped.
Two testicles were palpated and he had no umbilical hernia.
The only problem we found with Ernie was that the cranial plates had incompletely fused. This results in an open fontanelle. This defect will most likely self correct once Ernie grows larger. Hydrocephalus was ruled out due to Ernie’s lively and active nature. Dogs with hydrocephalus appear dull or depressed.
Ernie was wormed with Drontal all wormer and defleaed with Frontline Plus. We will start heartworm prevention at 12 weeks of age.

Ernie will need to be wormed every 2 weeks until he is 12 weeks old. Once he is 12 weeks old he will receive his final puppy vaccination. This will be a C5 vaccination against distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza and bordatella. Only after this vaccination will Ernie be allowed to go to the park.
