Desexing Options

Chemical castration using Suprelorin
Suprelorin is an implant which renders the implanted dog infertile for a 6 month period.  It works via a hormone suppression mechanism.  The implant is given in exactly the same way as a microchip.
Chemical castration is not permanent and thus is a great option for owners who are unsure as to whether they want to castrate their pet.

Benefits to owners
This treatment is an alternative for owners who have a problem with the permanency of surgery.

  • Desexing dogs whose owners are concerned regarding use of anaesthetic.
  • Displaying to owners the effect of castration prior to surgery.
  • Keeping show dogs intact.

Benefits to patient

  • Enables dogs that may be an anaesthetic risk to be desexed
  • Road-test the behavioural response of a zero testosterone level without submitting the patient to surgery.
  • Treating older dogs with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Temporarily sterilising dogs prior to breeding
