Desexing OptionsChemical castration using Suprelorin Suprelorin is an implant which renders the implanted dog infertile for a 6 month period. It works via a hormone suppression mechanism. The implant is given in exactly the same way as a microchip. Chemical castration is not permanent and thus is a great option for owners who are unsure as to whether they want to castrate their pet. Benefits to owners This treatment is an alternative for owners who have a problem with the permanency of surgery. Desexing dogs whose owners are concerned regarding use of anaesthetic. Displaying to owners the effect of castration prior to surgery. Keeping show dogs intact.
Benefits to patient Enables dogs that may be an anaesthetic risk to be desexed Road-test the behavioural response of a zero testosterone level without submitting the patient to surgery. Treating older dogs with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Temporarily sterilising dogs prior to breeding
