Hermit Crabs

Hermit crabs are the new black!  They are great conversation starters. They are an easy, entertaining and clean pet to own.  The average life span is about two years.

What you need to keep hermit crabs:

  • a smooth sided container.  (They are excellent climbers.)
  • encourage their climbing by placing branches or chicken wire inside their cage.
  • ensure that the lid is kept on so they can’t escape.
  • crabs require high humidity to keep their gills moist and to allow them to breathe properly.
  • it is important to keep the cage warm with the use of heat lamps.
  • ensure there is always a bowl of water in the cage.
  • some people like to place a damp sea sponge on bottom of the cage to help with the humidity.
