Plating a broken legBungy was a 5 week old racing greyhound when he was presented to the Newtown Veterinary Clinic with a broken leg. His mother had jumped on him and broken his tibia.
An xray was taken and the type and grading of the fracture was assessed. |
|
It was decided that placing a metal plate with screws across the fracture site would be the most appropriate method of fixation, keeping in mind the fact that keeping such a young animal quiet would be an almost impossible task!

| Bungy was placed under general anaesthetic for his proceedure. The plate was fixed down the lateral side of his tibia and four screws placed to keep the plate stable. |
| Bungy's leg was then bandaged with a thick supportive bandage to help provide stability in the first few weeks. Bungy was placed on antibiotics to prevent infection, and pain killers. |
|
 | Three months on and Bungy (having retired from a life of racing before it even began) is a normal, happy (very naughty) greyhound puppy.
His only problem now will be getting through the metal detectors at the airport!! | Back |
