Adult Dog Education Classes

Dogs can come in many different shapes and sizes, from purebreds to crossbreeds and everything in between, but the one important thing they all have in common is that they are all DOGS. This sounds pretty obvious right?, but quite often we lose sight of the fact that they do in fact have their own instinct and means of communication, and we also underestimate just how important these two things are to them. If you have ever found yourself at a loss to explain why your dog is behaving the way it is, good or bad, then our Adult Dog Education Class is for you. The classes are aimed at educating owners as to why your dog really behaves the way it does, but more importantly we will show you the right way to go about solving behavioural issues. The classes are also great if you just want to improve your relationship with your dog, or you are looking at getting a dog in the near future.

Our Adult Dog Education classes are based on the method of Amichien Dog Listening created by Englishwoman Jan Fennell. The Dog Listening method is a holistic approach that recognises the dog’s natural instinct and works with it rather than against it. In particular we focus on the importance of Leadership to your dog, covering areas such as Feeding, The Walk, Status & Danger. The concept of leadership is by no means a new one but quite often the way we are told to do this is from a very human perspective, and makes no sense to your dog whatsoever. The point of difference with our Adult Dog Education classes are that we recognise that the leadership we show has to make sense to the dog, and we educate owners how to do this properly. It really is a very easy process, but best of all – it works.

We don’t condone the use of intimidation or physical dominance when working with dogs, these things really aren’t necessary or helpful. We educate owner’s and in doing so we give you the tools to respond to any situation in the right way, for the duration of your dog’s life.

The right kind of leadership really is important to your dog. Their natural instinct is that they need a leader to make decisions about the welfare & safety of their ‘pack’, and in their domestic environment this pack is us. If they don’t see the kind of leadership they recognise then they will assume the role themselves, and this is where the trouble begins. Dogs really don’t understand the manmade world, they will tolerate it but they really don’t comprehend the environment in which we live or the rules we live by. For dogs who find themselves in this leadership position it can be an extremely confusing and stressful job, and often this stress causes behavioural issues such as:

  • Aggression
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Pulling on the Lead
  • Constant Barking
  • Jumping Up
  • Obsessions
  • Anxiousness
  • Running Away
  • Destructive Behaviour
  • Nervousness
  • Fussy Eaters
  • Restlessness
  • Ignoring Requests
  • Self Harm
  • Possessiveness

If you found yourself identifying with any of the above behaviours then our Adult Dog Education classes are for you. It is never too late to ‘teach an old dog new tricks’ because this is their language and it’s not new to them.....but it will be for you. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to change the way you interact with your dog. This program is about giving your dog the life they deserve – a stress free one.

The classes are run over a 4 week period on consecutive Saturday afternoons, with each session running for 2hours. Attendees will also be entitled to a lifetime support system, whereby any queries or concerns can be addressed promptly.
